COMMUNITY FIRE SAFETY EVENT

On Saturday 30 August 2008 the Garden will be host to Red Watch from Kensington Fire Station, who will be holding a Community Fire Safety event from 11.00 to 16.00.

In their tent in the Garden the members of Red Watch will be available to offer fire safety advice to residents of Nevern Square and the surrounding area. Anyone who attends will be entitled to a free Home Fire Safety Visit by a member of the fire crew, either on that day or another day at the resident's convenience. An HFSV should take around 30 minutes and will include advice on how to test your smoke alarms, where to locate smoke alarms and general fire safety advice taking into account your personal circumstances.

Additionally, it is expected that a fire appliance will be parked just outside one of the gates - probably the East gate - which should be fun for the small boys among us!

Do go along and take advantage of the good safety advice which will be available - and make the firefighters feel welcome.

'IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF FAMILY LIFE'

The Committee of Nevern Square Garden is delighted to have agreed that, from September 2008, pupils from Snowflake School for children with autism may have access to the Garden on weekday mornings in term time.

Snowflake School, (whose logo is shown above) is a registered charity, based in Longridge Road, registered with the Department for Education and Science, providing education for children aged between five and 14, with varying levels of autism. It opens in September 2008 with three pupils, and will always have at least one member of staff for every child. This means that each child coming into the Garden will always be accompanied by a teacher, who will wear the Snowflake uniform and a name badge, and will be responsible for the child’s well-being and behaviour. Teachers will also carry information cards about Snowflake School which they will be pleased to give to anyone they meet in the Garden.

Pupil numbers are expected gradually to grow over the next couple of years, but will not exceed 15, and it is anticipated that, even then, there will not be more than five or six children in the Garden at once.

The Committee is happy to make this contribution to the life of the local community and is sure that the children will benefit from access to the green space of the Garden where they can learn as well as exercise.
